Pets As Therapy is a national charity founded in 1983.  It is unique in that it provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues by volunteers with their own friendly, temperament tested and vaccinated dogs and cats.

Since its beginning, over 23,000 dogs have been registered into the Pets As Therapy Charity.

Today there are currently around 4,300 active Pets As Therapy visiting dogs and 140 cats at work in the UK.

Before any animal is accepted as a Pets As Therapy visitor, they must undergo a temperament assessment, which is carried out by one of a nationwide team of assessors, all of whom will have taken the accredited course run by the charity.

All Pets As Therapy dogs and cats wear a special identity disc on their collar.  The owners also wear a special ID badge and uniform whilst on visits.

Pets As Therapy carry public liability insurance with an indemnity limit of £5,000.000
